Cosmetic Silicone Limb Covers | Prosthetic Hands, Feet, Fingers, Toes

Cosmetic Limb Covers

After an arm or leg prosthesis is created for a patient, a custom cosmetic silicone cover can be made to mimic a realistic limb. Nails are custom made in silicone or acrylic (which can be painted). Depending on the type of prosthetic foot / foot shell underneath, the toes can be sculpted separately to be worn with sandals, flip flops, etc. For foot prostheses with an adjustable height, a silicone cover can be made in a neutral position, allowing for a limited range of motion when the prosthesis underneath is adjusted.

A hand or foot prosthesis (partial or full) can be made to fit over the stump of the patient. For patients who are missing a finger or toe, the stump must first be assessed in order to determine how best to attach the prosthesis. In cases where the remaining stump is sufficient, a simple digit prosthesis can be made to fit directly over the stump. In more difficult cases, single and multiple digits can be held in place by either using the adjacent digits, or by fabricating a retentive band, which blends with the colors of the skin.
